I have "Haxus Veris" - i.e. my big toe sticks out (opposite of a bunion) and this style has the strap forward enough to hold my big toe back in its proper position. I only wish you made other styles with the toe strap a little further forward. Don't ever stop making the Kayla! They are so comfortable and solve my problem. I am supposed to wear orthotics but with NAOTs, I don't have to because the arch support is phenomenal (even in the sandals). I own them in every color (the peacock is the one that always gets the compliments cuz it's such a pretty plummy color) and love them. They are cut very low in front, which is good because my feet swell and these never feel like they're cutting across the instep. I have had bunion surgery on one foot that wasn't very successful and has left my foot noticeably thicker than the other foot (which still has a bunion). I've had a couple of bouts of Plantar Fasciitis over the years. I also have metatarsal pain in the foot that was operated on. When I went to Nordstroms to look for shoes that I could stand in all day I didn't have much hope. But, my salesperson had a surprise for me! She recommended the Naot Ashley's. I didn't want to try them on at first because of the price tag. She showed me the metal leather color and pointed out how versatile they were and I wouldn't need to buy black, navy and brown shoes...these went with almost everything. My second concern was the fact that they were sandals with a strap around the bunion area (usually very uncomfortable). I agreed to try them on and it was amazing! I have never put on a pair of shoes that was immediately SO comfortable (not even running shoes). I took them home and thought I'd wear them in the house for a couple of days so I could return them if necessary. Well, it's been 5 months and they are every bit as comfortable as when I tried them on the first time. I've even purchased a 2nd pair. I highly recommend these shoes! Oddly, they look medium width from the outside view; when you pull out the insole for a look, the insole looks really narrow, but somehow my wider than average foot is comfortable in these - I'll guess it's because the fine but tough quality leather is soft and gives. (I hate those stiff leather cheaply made shoes floodin the stores today!) The footbed and sole of this are terrific just like other sandals of this "Elegant" collection, of which I also own and incessantly wear "Kayla". I ordered this one in black patent for a summer quasi elegant look, and it certainly looks well. I just am bothered by the stretchiness of the elastic - the shoe man remedied that as much as possible by removing some elastic on each one. Now they don't flap so badly, and I don't walk out of them any more, but I'm not crazy about the elastic like so many seem to be! The 'test run' was remarkable and while I left the store with just my pre ordered shoes, I couldn't get the feeling of walking in these out of my mind! So ten days later, I returned, found walking in the Kayla just as light, 'springy' and comfortable as the first time, and bought them! So glad I did! I've worn these more than any other sandal. These seem to actually propel energy into the next step while you walk! For an all around, go-to sandal, of excellent feel, excellent sole, excellent quality leather - that doesn't cut and doesn't fall off, the Kayla is a great choice! Despite the higher heel, it is very comfortable and supportive, so that I can teach in it, standing most of the day, and not be tired. VERY unfortunately, I got caught in a serious rainstorm last summer with these on - the leather stretched a bit as a result, and they don't fit as nicely as they used to. But I have no complaints. It might be that my feet slightly spread after 7 years - the new pair feels just a bit narrower, not as comfortable, but the sole is just as great and I'm confident that with wear, the leather straps will feel just as accomodating as my original 2001 pair! I wore these sandals for 3 weeks in Australia over hill and dale. They were so amazing. One note: I generally take a size 39 in Naot shoes, but had to return the size 39 Emory for a size 38, which fits perfectly...so try a size smaller than you would normally take in Naots, and enjoy!
